Yes, it's correct, only the STK600 implements the CMD_CHECK_STATUS_TGT_CONN command. Thus, I changed the implementation to only use the PARAM_STATUS_TGT_CONN query for both, the STK600 and the AVRISPmkII. There's nothing the CMD_CHECK_STATUS_TGT_CONN command would gain over the parameter solution.

While both devices should implement the PARAM_STATUS_TGT_CONN parameter, only the STK600 lists the (new) CMD_CHECK_STATUS_TGT_CONN command - the AVRISP-MKII does not. Does the AVRISP-MKII implement this command?

Fixed in r972.

Actually, both the STK600 and the AVRISPmkII implement
PARAM_STATUS_TGT_CONN, and despite some discrepancies
between the various C constant definitions given in AVR069
and AVR079, they appear to implement the same logic behind.
It's fun to have three documents (AVR068, AVR069, AVR079)
for different subsets of what is essentially the same
protocol.

Oops - that should read "The CMD_CHECK_TARGET_CONNECTION command only exists on the STK600...".

AVRDude trunk (and latest 5.10 release) issues an invalid CMD_CHECK_TARGET_CONNECTION command when an CMD_ENTER_PROGRAM_ISP command fails on the AVRISP-MKII. The ENTER_PROGRAM_ISP command only exists on the STK600, and does not exist on the AVRISP-MKII. For the AVRISP-MKII, the code should instead issue a CMD_GET_PARAMETER with the parameter ID set to PARAM_STATUS_TGT_CONN. The returned parameter information is virtually identical to the CMD_CHECK_TARGET_CONNECTION information, except the bit ordering is different.
