All patches commited. Fixed. Thanke for the bug report and the help for fixing it. Anyway, I don't intend to release now. I'll wait at least until the goffice issue is fixed.

This is all on Fedora 13, goffice 0.8.1. The backtrace with the new patch is now shorter:
With valgrind, going to preferences generates this:
and upon 2nd change of font the following appears:
Valgrind still seems to prevent the crash.

OK, more info: Back to Fedora 13, I tried running gchempaint cluelessly under valgrind, and I could change the font as many times as I wanted. Here is what the console did show:

On Fedora rawhide it actually behaves differently: it crashed on the 2nd font, with a different backtrace. When I installed all debuginfos, it started crashing on the 3rd font too. Backtrace is the following:

The fonts do not seem to matter, this time I tried Liberation Mono, Liberation Sans and Liberation Sans Narrow.
I am not sure about the line number, the only patch the package contains is the one from comment #2, which adds 2 lines to view.cc.

I can't reproduce that.
#5 seems to occur at line 409, while the call is actually at line 407 unless the file has been patch (might be a gdb issue).
Which fonts do you select to get the crash? Do they all have at least one face (that would be very strange if no face was available for a font).

With the patch you can change the font twice, and the third time it will kill the program.

If you go to Edit -> Preferences and try to change the text font, GChemPaint will crash. It also happens with 0.12.1. The backtrace is as follows:
