Ok, so i ran "debootstrap --variant=minbase metad gns3 http://archive.gnewsense.org/gnewsense-metad/gnewsense/".
Everything went fine, this bug can be closed.
Thanks.

I was about to try it when i discovered that one of the drives of my NAS had a failure...
Sorry, i just really don't have any space to test it, or to do anything else unfortunatly :(
As soon as i'll have a new drive i'll do the test and tell you the result.

It works for me now. No problems to report.

This should be OK now. I installed metad on the Yeeloong and that went well, apart from a problem with grub-yeeloong. Garinot or Niels, can you confirm?

This probably has something to do with the metad repo getting polluted a while ago. It has also been breaking updates. I removed bad versions for the following packages (copied directories to /home/buildd/temp_data/ first):
alacarte
alsa-utils
apt
aptitude
apt-listchanges
avahi
bash
bc
bind9
Those are packages that have been giving me errors while trying to update on the Yeeloong. I haven't checked the whole repo (yet). Let's see what the next (daily) archive run does.

The system I tried to debootstrap gNewSense from was a clean Debian install (with the gNewSense metad script). I don't think it has anything to do with what system you're using considering that it worked perfectly for me on the same system a couple of weeks ago. I also just tried this on my main x86 computer running Trisquel 4.0, and it doesn't work on that either.

I'm starting to think this may be related more to the system that executes debootstrap than to the packages debootstrap installs.
For my part, my system is a real mess, a mix of debian stable/testing/sid... With various third party repos some time ago. (yes, did a lot of strange stuff on this, i'm planning a reinstall soon, this is also why i'd like to know how to test parkes).
Niels Serup, what is your system like?
I suspect the cause may be found in debootstrap itself, or in chroot... But i'm no guru, and probably wrong ^^

I attempted this on my NanoNote (has a mipsel architecture), and it didn't work there either. When I tried it some two weeks ago, it worked perfectly. Now it gives the same errors as described by <cybervoy>.

The debootstrap of lenny went fine.
So now i'm not sure where the problem could be...
Maybe it is something in the GNS script for debootstrap?

Unfortunatly, i don't have a Yeeloong.
I'll try a debootstrap of lenny and give you feedback.
I'm not aware of parkes, is that a new version of GNS? Where can i find infos about it?

I'm putting it in group amd64 as that's the architecture you have tried.
If you have a Yeeloong, see if the same happens on there. We're not investing much time in metad for x86 anymore (focussing on parkes instead).
Does this also happen with Debian Lenny? I don't think we modify any of the package you named.

Here are the errors i get when debootstraping GNS3:
Setting up dash (0.5.4-12) ...
cat: /etc/shells: No such file or directory
Either another instance of /usr/sbin/add-shell is running, or it was previously interrupted.
Please examine /etc/shells.tmp to see if it should be moved onto /etc/shells.
dpkg: error processing dash (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Setting up libsepol1 (2.0.30-2) ...
telinit: /dev/initctl: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing libsepol1 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Setting up libselinux1 (2.0.65-5) ...
init: /dev/initctl: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing libselinux1 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I haven't checked for dash and libselinux1, but this is fixed for libsepol1 in debian squeeze by version 2.0.38-2 (see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=545018).
Updating the packages may be sufficient to fix this.
Attached my debootstrap log, just in case.
Thanks for reading.
