Hi Adam.
Mono is free software so we don't remove it. We simply discourage its use because we believe free software shouldn't depend on Mono or C#: http://www.fsf.org/news/dont-depend-on-mono

hi adam,
we include mono in our repos, but don't include it in our default distribution - i believe this is the suggested way of doing things.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer (just a law student), so you should not read what I write as equivalent to a lawyer's advice.

I have read articles on the Free Software Foundation's website which express fears that Mono and C# are a potential patent trap. According to the FSF, the Microsoft Community Promise is insufficient in protecting those who use Mono and C# from liability for patent infringment. Given that Microsoft has stated that it would like to use patents offensively against GNU/Linux, I am concerned that Mono is a potential patent trap for GNU/Linux.

I recommend that we remove Mono, C#, and programs written in Mono or C# from the gNewSense repositories, to minimize risk of liability for patent infringement.
