This problem is still present on version 0.9.3
It is possible to login via public key to browse the server and restore, but backup fails if authentication mode is public key (the server on which the backup is made runs kubuntu 12.04, and the backup fails with JBackpack returning a dialog box saying: rdiff-backup failed with the following output and then an empty text zone)

If I login with my password, it works fine.

The jbackpack option over ssh with ssh-key stays disabled and login fails. ERROR>read: Connection reset by peer
No option to go over http like rdiffweb.

Sorry for the late response...

Can you please provide the full details of the exception?

Thanks for developing JBackpack.

I've been experimenting with the program on Ubuntu 10.04.1 Desktop and Mac OS 10.6.6 (using MacPorts). I'm having the same problem with public key authentication on both systems. The destination for my experiments is Ubuntu 10.04.1 Server.

I can login and browse the destination with either Password or Public key selected under Authentication. If there is a backup at the destination, I can browse it and restore from it. During all these operations JBackpack doesn't ask for my password; presumably it's happy using my key.

If I have Password selected under Authentication, when I switch to the Backup tab and click on Backup, I enter my password and the backup completes successfully.

If I have Public key selected under Authenticaiton, when I switch to the Backup tab and click on Backup, JBackpack checks for rdiff-backup on the destination, then shows an error dialog "rdiff-backup failed with the following output:" with a blank text area. In my logs I see a java.lang.NullPointerException.
