Fair enough. I'd do the same. Once I get word that the next gNewSense has been released I'll be sure to try it and report back.

This means that the bug also exists in Ubuntu 8.04, so it's not something that's caused by our patches. I'm afraid we only have the developer resources to fix freedom bugs. My guess is that a newer version of X.org is required to fix this, which requires a lot of effort. We'd rather spend that time on releasing the next version of gNewSense sooner (with which I hope you'll have more luck; based on Debian Squeeze if you feel like testing it).

Thanks for your time, though.

Now, I booted gNewSense and at the opening menu, I typed the "linux xforcevesa" command and got a busybox shell. And I'm clueless as to what to do now XD

So I just tried the latest copy of 8.04 and it did the exact same thing with the graphics that gNewSense had done. I will now try the safe graphics command.

I really mean 8.04, because that is what gNewSense 2.x is based on. :)

Do you actually mean 8.04? Or did you make a typo and meant to say 11.04?

And yes I saw the progress bar.

I will try this soon. Not home at the moment :P

This is hard to debug without access to the hardware. It would be useful to see if the latest Ubuntu 8.04 Live CD has the same issue.

Did you see the logo and progress bar in the beginning after you pressed at the prompt?

Perhaps restarting the GUI (hit Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) would render the screen properly.

You could also try booting in safe graphics mode by typing

at the boot prompt.

I wanted to check out this OS and I booted it as a liveCD (The current stable version of the OS) and the display on my laptop was distorted. The display showed columns of salmon-colored rectangles and the mouse cursor was a distorted white square.
