The height of the game window is now 489 pixels.
Fixed in subversion.
Re-open this bug if you have more height constraints within gnome shell.

The minimum size of the window contents is currently 572 pixels. It is mostly driven by the height of the map, the menubar height, and then the buttons in the lower right.

So we have a deficit of 44 pixels.

Last time I tried to fit it on a netbook, I shrunk the arrow buttons a little bit.

The gaps between the map, and the button box and the bottom of the window add up to 24 pixels.

I have shrunk the splash screen to fit the netbook.

The game window is more of a problem, because I don't want to set the default size to be netbook-sized.

Does everything fit if the game is maximized or fullscreened?

The default GNOME 2 installation places two toolbars of 24px on top an dbottom of the screen. The default decoration is 24px as well, so the working area of application should not exceed (600 - 3*24) 528px.

I will be trying GNOME3 in a week or so, I will write back about those defaults as well.

In the past I have shrunk the splash screen (a little) so that it would fit on a netbook. The height of the image is 575 pixels. So I guess it depends on the window decorations. I could make it a little smaller again... maybe 10 less pixels. Would that fix it for you?

I think when you say "when all panels are hidden", it means when there isn't a stack selected. Is it the height that is exceeded? By how much?

Welcome screen doesn't fit anyway, main window fits only when all panels are hidden.

Would be nice if both windows fitted GNOME 2 and GNOME 3 default layouts on 1024x600 netbook screen.

This might be doable with reduction of bottom panel and scaling the map.
