I upgraded to pidgin from Wheezy (Testing); it appears that I've successfully added my buddy, though it will probably be a couple of days before I can manage to chat with her.

Thanks a lot for your help. I'm looking forward to using Elim.

Looks like it's this bug

http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/13298

which appears to be a result of the MSN server(s) altering
their behaviour: Wher ethey used to report the network as 1
(normal) then noe report it as 0 (unknown).

Not a lot that elim/garak can do about this, it's
pretty firmly something that musg be addressed by
a libpurple update.

Ok, the stderr file looks a little clearer now. The new version is attached (again, e-mail addresses slightly modified).

Bah, the markup defeated me.

It should have been:

There's some slightly suspicious debug before your
add buddy call that looks like use-after free or other
memory corruption, but nothing that looks directly
pertinent.

Right. Thanks for getting back to me within a few days; I'll try to respond more quickly in the future.

First, I can't evaluate the code below properly. I load garak, paste your code into my scratch buffer, then evaluate it. The response is "(error "Buffer scratch has no process")".

Anyway, I am able to open up the elim.<PID>.stderr file. It should be attached. Hopefully it will still be useful.

There should be a file elim.<PID>.stderr in
elim-directory (<f1> v elim-directory RET) -

If you eval the following:

(elim-process-send
(get-process "elim")
(elim-daemon-call 'debug-mode nil
(elim-simple-list-to-proto-alist
'("debug" t))))

Then the purple debug output will get dumped to that file,
which hopefully will shed more light on what is going on.

I'm trying to chat with someone via ELIM. I believe that I'm successfully logged into Hotmail, but when I try /add-buddy -unavailable- jane_doe@hotmail.com, the following message appears:

Notice-
Unable to Add:
Unable to add the buddy -unavailable- because the username is invalid. \
Usernames must be valid email addresses.:

(E-mail address changed for privacy.)

It looks like a valid e-mail address to me, so I'm not sure what to do.

I'm using Emacs 24.0.50.1, running on Debian Stable (Squeeze), along with ELIM downloaded from the tarballs on this site. I'm running Emacs in a terminal, since I'm connected to it via Putty on Windows. I'd be happy to send any further information that may be useful.

Thanks for your work developing ELIM. I hope this information will be helpful to you.
