I don't think this is possible. Normally your shell sets the window title everytime the prompt is displayed, this would restore the title to something meaningful.

Ranger sets the title of the terminal console in which it is running to "ranger:/foo/bar".
When I close ranger, the terminal retains the last update ranger made to the the title.

What should happen (obvious to me at least) is that upon exit ranger should remove it's title from the terminal. Maybe it should remember what was there before it was started.
