Thanks for testing! Then I will close this bug for now and avoid adding gamma control to the render shader. We can revisit this if more reasons to add gamma control are found.

The new brightness is no replacement for a gamma adjustment, but it is quite good in conjunction with ghostbusting. I have found that a brightness of .06 with a ghostbusting amount of .20 gives a very good result on my system. If I want to adjust the gamma, I can set it using xcalib, which I imagine is quite a lot less costly than calculating it per frame.

I just replaced the color adjustment code with a new version that is much cheaper to compute in the render shader. This change was planned for a while now.

As a side effect, the brightness parameter now does not increase the black level anymore since it is a now a pure scaling parameter.

Can you test if this new brightness parameter would be an acceptable replacement for gamma control?

(The problem with an additional gamma control would be that it is costly to compute in the render shader on older hardware since it is a non-linear transformation. We currently try to improve the performance of Bino on older hardware.)

I would like to request the ability to adjust gamma within the color adjustments window. The advantage of adjusting gamma vs. adjusting brightness is that the black level doesn't get raised with gamma as it does with brightness. This would be especially helpful when used in conjunction with ghostbusting, which also raises the black level considerably. With other players, I usually set the gamma to 1.2 or 1.3 when using shutter glasses to counter the darkening effect these glasses create.

Thanks to all the developers for making such a wonderful player!
