[field #13] Summary: Video don't load with anonymox add-on - Firefox 7 beta
[field #14] Original Submission: Using Scriptish and Linterna Magica works fine.

Yet if I add Anonymox, the video no longer loads (YouTube, Vimeo)

Anonymox 0.9.3: Firefox add-on http://www.anonymox.net/en

The Linterna Magica frame appears and the bottom bar says Loading… but it never seems to load.

I set Linterna Magica to debug 2 then 5: all I get on the video page is a debug bar that vanishes in seconds.

Here attached is a picture of what Linterna Magica achieves with Anonymox on.

My feeling is Anonymox is the culprit though.

It seems to me that Anonymox is not free software. There is no information about license or source code at the website. There is a README_and_LICENSE.txt file in the XPI (the extension package). Here is the most interesting part of it (quoted):

"(All rights reserved)
(Use at your own risk)

This is the uncommented version of the code.
If you want to know how it works or if you want to have more readable source, just contact me :-)"

Every JavaScript file is obfuscated/minimized (not the real source code) and has the same header as the quote from the README_and_LICENSE.txt file. If you value your freedom you should not use this software. You could write to the author to investigate why he distributes the software his way and is he willing to release it as free software.

I'm not investigating this bug further. I refuse to support non-free software and fix bugs related with such software in this project.

If you decide to write to the author about releasing the add-on as free software with original not obfuscated/minimized code, comments, free software license and proper license headers, and the situation changes, feel free to reopen this bug or write me personally. My e-mail address is available at the website of the project.

As you can see over there https://trisquel.info/en/forum/anonymox-and-linterna-magica#comment-14281
the problem is solved when the Youtube videos have been converted to WebM by Youtube.

On Vimeo, I came across an MP4 video and I can't open it via the Linterna Magica box. After setting Totem as MP4 player (instead of default plugin) I can open it with Totem. In fact, the video is downloaded in /tmp and then Totem opens it (just as a PDF that I choose to look at rather than download). Previously, clicking on the save button opened a black page, probably the Totem plugin trying to display the video?

Here's the debug messages for a video on Vimeo which is MP4:

Many thanks, Ivaylo, you've made it all quite clear. Sorry to be so dumb.

So here's the output of the debug box

The bar that disappears is for pages that do not render the Linterna Mágica player (or frame as you've put it). When a player is rendered, the debug box is available trough the main interface. At the top near the "Linterna Mágica" logo/about button you should see another icon that looks like a bug. Clicking it will show the debug messages where the video is normally rendered.
