The assertion fails because the team removed the building from its list of buildings, but the building is still on the map. Building::kill() tried to remove it, but the building's type said its dimensions were 4x4, but there were 36 squares of Racetrack on the map. This made the dimensions of the Racetrack on the map effectively 6x6. After Building::kill() removed a 4x4 square of the Racetrack, 20 squares of the Racetrack were left on the map. One of those squares triggered the assertion. The Racetrack is level 1, which means it is only 4x4, not 6x6. The attached patch will ensure that each destroyed building is completely removed from the map even if the building and the map don't agree on the dimensions of the building.

Here's how to make it crash:

  1. Start the Flags and Completion tutorial.
  2. Press Space until the tutorial says "On the top row, there are flags."
  3. Select your Swarm.
  4. Set Working to 18.
  5. Set the Warrior bar to 2.
  6. Place a War Flag on the enemy's Racetrack.
  7. Set the Range to 0.
  8. Set Working to 20.
  9. Set Minimum Required Level to 2.

The game will always crash when the enemy's Racetrack is destroyed.
This crash happens regardless of whether OpenGL is enabled or whether the game is fullscreen. The game aborts with the same assertion as in bug 25730, but crashes in a different method. Bug 25730 and this one might be caused by the same problem.
I have the version of Globulation 2 from the openSUSE 11.4 repositories which is in the RPM package glob2-0.9.4.4-1.pm.3.3.x86_64. The packaged executable is stripped of debugging information, but I can't get the package with the debugging information because Version 12.1 of openSUSE doesn't have Globulation 2 in the official repositories. The backtrace looks like this:
