The whole idea of a Mesh is to have fused nodes. It would be rather confusing if after some operations the user is left with a Mesh that has a mix of single, double, triple, ... points.
And having to fuse() after every operation would be a real burden.
If you do not want to fuse the nodes, it probably means that you should use a list of Meshes instead.

Maybe we should create such a class?

And if you really need to concatenate, you can always use Mesh.concatenate with a parameter 'fuse=False'.

If you want to further discuss this, I suggest we use mail to
pyformex-dev@nongnu.org.

Summing 2 meshes also fuses the nodes (eventually slightly changing the original nodal coordinates). Indeed it is equivalent to Mesh.concatenate,
which calls mergeMeshes, which by default fuses the nodes.

Should M1+M2 just create a sum (i.e. append nodes and elems), without operating on the nodes?

I think also Mesh.concatenate should not, by default, fuse the nodes.

If one wants to fuse the meshes, he could do it afterwards by simply .fuse().

I think that that mesh methods should as much as possible keep the original nodes and only fuse them when explicitely required. In this way the user can rely on the node indices.

Am I wrong?
