The bug never had a chance to come up because I really can't use Circle with -d. I upgraded to pygtk2 1.99.16 and it seems to work fine now.

are you sure this is really related to the -d option?
(i.e., is the bug still present if you do not use -d?)

I guess this bug is related to your version of pygtk2.
(see bug report #3556)

try to upgrade your pygtk2 to 1.99.14 and let me know

When invoking Circle-0.35 with the -d option, it crashes for me.

The initial splash screen appears with the cat and a text box saying "Connecting to the Circle Network..." It then crashes with this Traceback:
python Circle-0.35.pyw -d

I'm using Gentoo/GNU Linux on an i686. Appropriate software versions are:

python-2.2.2
pygtk-1.99.13
gtk+-2.2.1
