Hi,

Based on your last comment I've marked the bug as fixed. Its status is still open, so it will show in the list of unresolved issues. I'll wait few more weeks for any reports on this issue and will close it. Thanks for the cooperation.

Hi, I'm sorry for taking so long to respond back.

Today I just tested svn-trunk rev. 405 Build date: 05 Jul 2013, and the numeric number is not showing any more :)

I'll keep testing and reply back if I notice anything new. Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting back. Did you test an svn build? The code that used the # in the URL/address bar is removed from trunk.

Could you please confimg that you've tested a nighly/daly unstable build from the website with all other versions of Linterna Magica disabled? I simply cannot believe that it is still reproducable in trunk.

Thanks!

I'm afraid linterna magica seems to be behaving the same way, but as you have kindly already explained to me this seems to be the expected behaver.

And probably the websites are not reloaded every time I visit a new web page, it's just that the browser scrolls all the way up again after the numeric sign (#) is added in the url bar, which doesn't happen immediately after visiting a new page.

I do appreciate linterna magica a lot and I don't think this is such a big issue, I'll just stick to my original idea and limit linterna magica use to youtube by adding the following two lines to the code:

// @include http://www.youtube.com/watch*
// @include https://www.youtube.com/watch*

If I ever need to use it else were I can just add more sites. Thanks for every thing.

Hi,

Since the fix for bug #38861 commited in revision 404 this issue should be fixed too. Could you test an svn build and report back? Thanks!

Trisquel 5.5 STS Brigantia is the name of my GNU/Linux distribution and its browser is called "Abrowser", which is base on firefox. I'm using version 19.0 which I'm assuming is base on version 19.0 of firefox, but I'm sure we are always behind updates.

I'm sure I'm using the newest version of linterna magica (0.0.13-1), I checked. I uninstalled and installed it back on just to make sure. Also I wouldn't be able to watch youtube videos any more if I were using a previous version, and I don't have any other greasy monkey scripts installed, only one linterna magica.

You are probably right, the pages are not being reloaded, it was probably just my appreciation.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting. It is not a bug it is a feature. ;) The joke aside, this is a proper behaviour. It is part of the code that checks for updates. To prevent a referrer (the page being watched) being send to Savannah servers (and before that my personal server) when fetching the script that holds the version a work-around with an object/frame is used. When the script is fetched from a frame/object it does not send the page being watched. The disadvantage is that to get the data the only way to pass it to the context of the original page is trough the URL/address bar. When the data is fetched it is cleaned and only the # is left to prevent page reloading. It is all a big dirty hack. My observation is that going back in the history should work, but there should be an extra item - the url with the Linterna Mágica data in it.

Which browser and version are you using?

Check that you don't have more than one version installed. Since 0.0.13-1 the namespace in Greasemonkey is changed and newer versions do not overwrite old ones. Old ones must be uninstalled manually.

The work around with the @include tag is a proper fix.

Keep me posted.

To temporally solve this issue I edit the script in the following part:

// @include http://*
// @include https://*

with

// @include http://www.youtube.com/watch*

So that linterna magica is only use when trying to watch a video on youtube, which is the place were I use it the most.

While navigating on my browser and having linterna magica 0.0.13-1 enable, every time I visit a page, the browser reloads the page and a numeric sign (#) is added in the end of the URL. This is done no matter what page I'm visiting.

After this happens, If I want to use the go back to the previous page button of my browser, it takes me to the original url without the numeric sign but then it takes me right back to the same page with the numeric sign, making this function of the browser unusable.

I don't think this is related but I'm also experiencing the following problem:
