I can confirm that I'm also able to reproduce this behaviour on a 2x2 window split grid using the current WeeChat 0.4.2-dev and rxvt-unicode v9.18 (no tmux/screen in between).

Steps:
- Create 2x2 window split grid (1x /window splith, 2x /window splitv).
- Simply resize the terminal and watch the spot at the center.

Redrawing the window (ctrl+l) doesn't fix this, but sursprisingly zooming in and out again (2x ctrl+z) does.

-have a grid of 3x3 buffers
-resize the window until you see weird characters in the corners

I guess it can work with a 2x2 grid also, but I haven't tried it.
I expect +-like characters to be there instead, and it's the default behavior.

The attached screenshot explains the problem better than any piece of text could.
