So-called "secure AIS" products encode the channel as C, to indicate that the following data stream is encrypted. I don't know the details of this protocol and whether it's standard or not, but I see such messages in the wild.

Since it actually happens, I suggest we downgrade the reporting from LOG_ERROR to LOG_WARN (or even LOG_INF), e.g. insert the following code at drivers.c:1236

case 'C':
gpsd_report(session->context->debug, LOG_INF,
"ignoring AIS channel C (secure AIS).\n");
return false;
break;
