Please get the /var/log/messages and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files, using another OS, and attach them here.

I decided to try out gnewsense and installed it on a usb flash drive.  It successfully installed and runs well enough on the flash drive, however there are several problems that I have encountered.  first off, I suspect that it may not be properly using 2D acceleration, but that on its own is not as bad as the freezing problem.

For some reason it freezes when I log out, hit control+alt+f1 to use the console, reboot, or otherwise stop x-server.
