As far as I can tell in December 2013 OSM had already switched from the old Mapnik style to the CartoCSS based one, while maposmatic.org is still using the Mapnik one. That would explain the visual differences. It is even more obvious today as a lot of changes to the CartoOSS style have never been backported to the older Mapnik one.
Hi David, Thank you for your answer. I did not understand very well what you mean by "Right now, I don't know what we have changed on our version of OSM style-sheet. Is it a bug or a feature?" That the MapOSMatic style-sheet should create the same rendering than Mapnik and that a modification or a bug would affect it?
It is a difficult question! Corresponding job is http://www.maposmatic.org/maps/093274 You have used default style-sheet (so it should be OSM one). We could decrease the thickness of highway but it could have an impact for other users. Here is the corresponding map on OSM: http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/14.70553/-17.45430 This is true that on OSM the roads are smaller. Right now, I don't know what we have changed on our version of OSM style-sheet. Is it a bug or a feature? Sorry to not be more helpful.
Hi, MapOSMatic is really powerful and has the potential to be a great tool for communities and local authorities in developing countries, but the rendering is not satisfying for dense urban areas, where close streets and highways are way too thick and cover half of the built areas. This is an example: http://www.maposmatic.org/results//093274_2013-09-04_12-46_GrandDakarDakarSngal.pdf Would there be a way to decrease the highway thickness in the mapping style of OCitySMap? Sincerely, Severin
