To be more precise: I use a GNU tar version which has been configured at build time to use the POSIX standard. Future versions of GNU tar will do that by default.

Well, GNU tar now follows the POSIX.1-2001 standard, which is older than 10 years! What about slightly updating your system?

And I consider the POSIX standard as something all UNIX hosts should follow. Maybe you disagree.

Note that I won't reply anymore if you don't stop the insults.

I use UNIX. Not "Unix-like" or something vaguely similar, actual UNIX.

And the problem, apparently, lies with gnutar not being standards-compliant. This was not a problem with Freetype up to 2.42 at least. Now it is. Do you test anything or just make happy-face changes and hope it will all be wonderful ?

Well, it's not. On UNIX this tarfile does not untar clean. On both Solaris and Irix which are both real honest UNIX, not "Unix-like" or some deviated preversion therof, freetype2 now does not untar. "PaxHeaders" everywhere and it won't ./configure

This is a total lack of quality control. Fifty different versions of Linux do not constitute cross-platform. Nor does it even begin to resemble standards-compliance.

For me, eating broiled cockroaches "works just fine." Care to join me ?

If you all want to be bigshots, it's time to step up to the plate and institute some real quality controls. Otherwise you're nothing but children playing dressup in Mummy and Daddy's clothes.

Very witty.

You don't give any details what system you have.

For me, it works just fine.

herbert 94% pwd
/usr/people/dev/tmp/freetype-2.5.2

herbert 95% ./configure --prefix=/opt/freetype
builds/PaxHeaders.20920/detect.mk:1: *** missing separator. Stop.

What is this garbage ? Does anyone do any testing over there ?
