This turns out to be a case of low quality DMI table in your BIOS. Some fields are apparently left uninitialized so you get random values decoded. The values 58785 and 66 are really what's encoded in your table. And that's not just the memory speed, in the raw output you can see garbage in bytes 0x1C-0x1F too (with no consequence on the regular output as this "Extended Size" field isn't needed for 4 GB memory modules.)

The rest of the DMI table is not better. With 30 values out of specification and 10 bad indexes, it's easily the worst table I've seen in years. If this worries you, you should complain to the vendor. But first you could try upgrading the BIOS, as I see there have been several updates available from MSI's website. Maybe they improved the DMI table in one of these.

Hi again, sorry about that. I've attached file #32413 below.

The file you attached is the output with option --dump, not the file generated with option --dump-bin as I requested.

Thanks for your response khali. I've attached info.txt below (file #32409).

Please attach a binary dump of your DMI table (as generated by dmidecode --dump-bin.)

I forgot to add my motherboard info: MSI Z68A-GD55 (version G3)

The command "dmidecode -t memory | grep -i speed" outputs the following:

Speed: 1600 MHz
Configured Clock Speed: Unknown
Speed: Unknown
Configured Clock Speed: Unknown
Speed: 1600 MHz
Configured Clock Speed: 58785 MHz
Speed: Unknown
Configured Clock Speed: 66 MHz

As you can see: 58785 MHz is not the correct maximum speed for my RAM and it is also displaying a maximum speed for an empty memory bank (66 MHz).

Here is some info on my RAM sticks: 2 x 4 GB DDR3 CAS 10-11-10-28 1.5V DIMM 240-Pin.
I don't know if this is useful, but here is the brand name: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline Frostbyte.

Despite the fact that it is PC3-17066, I only run each stick at 1600 MHz (OC'd from the manufacturer default of 1333 MHz) which is fine for me.
