Well, only some fields in FT_Bitmap were changed from signed to unsigned...

I found the bug in my code. It's in the part calculating the vertex and texture coordinates, where I do:

to record the y-coordinate of the vertex. The calculation overflows and returns something like 4294967296. The fix for me is to cast bitmap.rows to a signed int. Are there other properties that I can use that I may have missed?

As for this bug, I think you can close it as invalid. Sorry for the trouble.

I've tried several fonts, mostly OTFs and TTFs. All missing random glyphs. I'll try debugging later and report back when I have more information. Thanks for pushing me in the right direction.

Interesting. However, I don't have time to analyze your code, sorry. Does this happen with all fonts? Can you check the arguments to FreeType functions so that you can exactly identify which call fails? Does one of the FreeType demo programs fail?

You might also build FreeType in debugging mode, then setting

FT2_DEBUG=any:7

in the environment to get very detailed trace messages. In particular, you can set a breakpoint at `FT_Trace' (which is an empty function just to provide this breakpoint) to find out where the error happens.

After upgrading to 2.5.4, some glyphs are simply missing in action. I've bisected this to "Change some fields in `FT_Bitmap' to unsigned type." (b3500af7) and can confirm that after reverting this change, things go back to normal.

My code can be found here: https://bitbucket.org/tido/rainbow/src/7932a79f7c1800516553764a7fdd7cc5c6e55696/src/Graphics/FontAtlas.cpp?at=master
