Definitely a compiler or runtime bug. I was going to attempt a deep-dive debugging session this afternoon, but this problem magically disappeared over the past six days. The only environmental change was that I upgraded to the new iOS 8.3 SDK.

Presumably I would be able to reproduce the issue if I somehow manually installed the 8.2 SDK to test, but I don't think that would be a helpful use of time.

So I am able to confirm from my testing today that freetype-2.5.5 runs fine on iOS 8.x on arm64, if compiled with the newest SDK.

Since I can't debug the problem, I can only guess, and my crystal ball says that there is a problem with longjmp, probably a compiler bug or not a sufficient level of support for this function.

As far as we know, FreeType's cmap code works fine on other 64bit platforms so it is up to you, unfortunately, to find out why it crashes.

Sorry for the formatting issues. I'm not used to Savannah here.

Hey all, first off thanks for Freetype. It's an awesome library.

I wanted to report a crash in freetype-2.5.5 on arm64. It dies with "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" in tt_face_build_cmaps near ttcmap.c:3545. The same code works on multiple other machine architectures, so I'm fairly certain it's unrelated to my usage of the library.

The debugger is a GUI (Xcode) so I had to resort to screenshots of the relevant sections. (Sorry, if I was more familiar with Xcode I could probably get plain text backtraces.)

The call trace includes:

  1. tt_face_build_cmaps

1 sfnt_load_face
2 tt_face_init
3 open_face
4 FT_Open_Face
5 FT_New_Memory_Face

I imagine this might be related to another bug with the arm64 build process, which I am about to post.

Thanks for everything!
