In deed; by setting the serial_baudrate = 19200 I can access the phone and fetch contacts from my phone.

The speed of the serial connection in gnokii is set using the "serial_baudrate" parameter in gnokiirc. If that doesn't work for you please file a bug report with the debug output showing the failure.

Currently gnokii only supports AT as a 'model'. However my Qualcom 3G WCDMA, GTM 382 module would at least require the at19200 protocol as implemented by wammu. XGnooki can connect to the GTM 382 module built into my notebook via /dev/ttyHS3 by a serial connection but gnokii can f.i. not retrieve SMS-es via pure AT. However it would f.i. be necessary on activation of a new SIM card to read and write SMS-es. The GTM 382 module is supported fine by the kernel as it can be used to establish an internet connection.
