I have seen $10-20 Mac App store apps that can convert side-by-side to red and cyan and back. However NONE of them can take my Nintendo 3DS footage, which is a Motion Jpeg twin stream AVI and convert THAT into Side By Side Half or Red and Cyan. I tried using Bino3d. I was able to drop the 3DS video, convert it into red and cyan and see the 3D effect preserved. However there is a problem. I can view it, but I can't change the format as a saved mp4 of side by side half to edit, and then when finished editing make a red and cyan version and a 2D version without adjusting the edit. And before you say Unix commansds, read on.
I know iMovie is garbage in-garbage out as far as stereoscopy is concerned. If the footage brought into imovie is red and cyan, you can edit the film iMovie style in red and cyan. Same with side by side half. iMovie doesn't recognize the twin stream file, but if I can convert it to an editable format that preserves the depth that would be perfect. And once it's inputted as 3D footage, you take the unit as a frame, meaning, you can't manipulate the 3D depths, but I don't need to because I'm just doing real world footage on a 3DS. I'm just filming a miniature golf competition. I don't need Godzilla rampaging through the course. I just need to take out the boring parts and add slow mo replays.
That being said, there are 2 main concerns. One is I can't save the outputted format without using terminal. I know enough about Terminal (Unix) that one mistyped character could potentially ruin things if you don't understand it. The reason why I bought a Macintosh is I want a computer that doesn't get sick and works right out of the box. I know (just for the sake of example, not quoting actual speed) the conversion may be a minute conversion time per hour of footage as a Mac OS app, instead of 30 seconds with unix. I'm not running a 3D filming race, I got all the time in the world, only to be ended by injury, sickness, or death. I don't have to have the movie ready in a week, and every second would count. So I would like an Mac App stroe app for 2 reasons. One is to make sure I'm doing it right, and the other is to make sure my computer doesn't come down with robot flu. that would be worth a $20 download, especially if you advertised twin stream as a supported format. I''ll comment on a different post about a feature request.
