Yes, that certainly takes care of it. In fact, once the root directory is in place, you can enter commands for 'credativ' and they will work.

Unfortunately, things are still broken. The 'Set Time' dialog is still dimmed, and even through I set the networking parameters, they don't work either.

That's odd, because it works just fine in Morphix (Heavy).

Thanks!

Maybe you can, but I can't. If I enter 'root' as the login, I get the following warning:

Your home directory is listed as:
'/home/root'
but it does not appear to exist.
Do you want to log in with the root
directory as your home directory?

If I enter 'No', you can't log in. If I enter 'Yes', I get the following warning:

It is unlikely anything will work
unless you use a failsafe session.

If I choose 'No', I can't login. If I choose 'Yes', I the following error:

Please contact your system administrator to resolve the
following problem:
Could not open or create the file "/home/root/.gconf-test-
locking-file"; this indicates there may be a problem with
your configuration, as many programs will need to create files
in your home directory. The error was "No such file or
directory (errno=2).

Choosing the Failsafe Gnome option, I get the warning:

This is the Failsafe Gnome Session.
You will be... (etc.)

and then I get the same problem as above.

This is a pretty major error. If it wasn't such a huge download, I'd ftp another copy to see if the download was corrupted. I've burned the CD a couple times, and they all have this problem.

Unfortunately, I'm on WindowsXP, so I don't know how to get a checksum on the image file.

I'll just point out the obvious: not accepting the root password means that you can't do much of anything:

- Can't configure anything (not even date and time!)
- Can't set up networking
- Can't access the internet (ie: no networking)

:-(

None of the GUI applications (ie: network configuration) will accept the root password, even after it's been set via 'sudo passwd'.

On the other hand, the root password does work at the command line (ie 'su').
