When you boot up, you are given the option of pressing the F2 key to see a list of 'cheatcodes'. One of the options not listed is the language option: 'lang=us'

So you can type:

credativ lang=us

and it'll boot in English. Credativ (http://www.credativ.de/) is apparently a German company that provided resources for Gnoppix.

As for OpenOffice being absent, from reading the mailing lists I get the impression that space was an issue (OO is over 100Meg), and it's not really part of the Gnome Office (although Ximian has apparently done a lot to 'Gnomify' OO).

It doesn't appear that Java is included in Gnoppix. That's not required for OO, but it might have been a factor.

How on earth do I get an English desktop? There are no language variables I can find in terms of setting the language of gnome. Also why is their something like Evolution but not OpenOffice? Are there plans for OpenOffice?
