Here, is what happened today. I tried to boot gnoppix using credativ-txt xmodule=ati lang=us
First when I tried to start gdm I got the following errors:
1. EE No Devices Detected
2. Also got a Fatal Error - No Screens Found
I verified the version of XFree86 is 4.3.0 , this they say is known to support the chip SiS 5597
In any case, I don't have this problem with Knoppix and it boots perfectly well all the time.
I also tried the command lspci at the root prompt and got several lines. Then I tried lspci < output1
The keyboard behaved very wierd insted of < it kept typing ; I tried a few times before giving up.
Please assist. Thanks.

I tried to boot today and then pressed Ctrl Alt BckSpc
This command still loads the same screen that ends in a freeze, I am unable to bring the console up. Moreover, I also tried noapic and choose XFree86 S3 at boot. none helped. I am still getting the same modprobe error. Please assist, thanks.

open a Terminal, type "lspci --v" and paste the output.
Maybe a solution to fix it temp. open with your editor
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 search for the "Driver" and change this to vesa, than restart gdm

could you send me output from lsmod, lspci and your /etc/XF86config ?

Sure, I will be glad to. Please explain to me how I can get these outputs and copy/send them to you.
Will these appear on the screen and do you want me to write them down ? What commands should I use ? I am not an IT person and a newbie to Linux. So please explain all the steps in detail. Thanks.
Thank You.

I am not an IT person. Just providing here some related information I came across hoping this will help to solve the problem.
I was informed that the SiS 5597 chip is supported by only XFree86 versions 3.3.6 & 4.3. So it appears that either Gnoppix uses a different version of XFree86 or the driver for the SiS 5597 chip is missing. Please let me know if this is the case and how it can be rectified.
Thank You.

Resubmitting again after registration for followup.
Gnoppix Version: 0.5.4.1
Downloaded using 56K modem. md5sum is OK.
My PC: IBM APTIVA, E Series 140, 333MHz, 156MB Ram, 4G HD
I boot Gnoppix using the following:
creadtiv-text vga=nprmal lang=us
At boot I get the following message
modprobe error: Chip SiS 5597 Not Found
This is my VideoCard on my Mother Board. Video memory 4096MB
Since this is not detected, it appears that Gnoppix doesn't load well or appear on my screen. Soon after all the boot messages are over, the screen goes blank then a broad multi-colored band of 4cms approx. fills the top portion of my screen. The rest of the screen is blank. In this state the loading freezes.
The same error message appears to me when I use Damn Small Linux. However, Knoppix 3.2 loads very well. Please assist.
Thanks.
