I assume the "add 1 gig more swap" is the problem that is causing the kernel panic/process lockup that I described, not the need to still manually set the keymap to "us" on the console.

Further, I assume the "add 1 gig more swap" is simply bug-tracking information for you, not a suggestion to me, as I don't know of a way to control the size of swap and assume credativ-autoconfig automatically allocates swap.

If there is something more that you would like me to do, please update, otherwise I will assume that this bug is open but in your ball-court.

I should note that it not working in VMware for me, as well as having to set the keymap on the console, are by no means showstoppers for me and that I find the Gnoppix bootable CD, v.0.5.99-devel1 very useful!

OK, I tried the 0.5.99-devel1 image on vmware workstation 4. It loaded but I never got a graphical screen. gdm started but was blocked by the kernel (process status "D") as was pump. I tried to run ifconfig -a and it was blocked too.

The reason for all of this blocking is that there was a kernel panic. :-( I would have included the stack trace here, but ksymoops did not seem to be on the CD (not in $PATH anyway).

But before all of this, I had to use loadkeys to set the us keymap, despite the fact that I used "credativ lang=us" on the boot prompt so there still seems to be some issues with trying to use other languages.

On a positive note, the LC_ALL variable in the console session I did get was "C".

I am using 0.5.5-2. The http://www.gnoppix.org/downloads.html shows the latest version to be GNOPPIX 0.5.4-1 (2003-09-15) so I thought for sure I must be using the latest version. I got my version by rsyncing from rsync://source.rfc822.org/gnoppix/. There does seem to be a gnoppix-0.5.99-devel1.iso there. Perhaps you mean that one?

I found simply using "lang=en" (or lang=us for that fact) on the command line was not sufficient to get an english/us locale.

The things I had to do once gnoppix (0.5.5-2) was up and running was to rm /etc/environment and create a new one with:

LANG="C"
LC_ALL="C"

I suspect that the LC_ALL is the clincher here. It does not seem to get set either in /etc/sysconfig/i18n (by S00credative-autoconfig) or by gdm when you choose a different language.

Additionally to work on the text console, I had to do a:

# loadkeys us

For whatever reason that does not seem to be effected by S00credativ-autoconfig, although the logic of the code seems to be fine.

I would go make these changes myself in the CREDATIV cloop file on the iso image, but I don't seem to have enough memory on my workstation to mount that cloop device. When I try to insmod the cloop device with the CREDATIV cloop file, I get:
cloop: /tmp/gnoppix--0.5.5-2en/CREDATIV/CREDATIV: 194
93 blocks, 65536 bytes/block, largest block is 2477779842 bytes.
cloop: out of memory for compressed buffer 2477779842

Is there any way to uncompress the image into a file and mount it as a regular ol' uncompressed loopback image?

Thanx,
b.
