repl neglects to restore the umask after setting it, which can lead to problems in the editor child process.
In particular, in vim, when using "!}fmt" to try to reformat a paragraph, the editor creates a directory to hold a temp file, but the directory is not executable due to the leaked umask, so the temp file cannot be created.
