I have to disagree here. Yes, Cut and Clear are pretty much the same thing - Clear just does not affect the copy buffer. Tutka does this like (Amiga) trackers do this. Clear is actually not even necessary but maybe it is good to have so it's possible to clear notes and have something in the copy buffer at the same time.

I know, Tutka is not a graphics program but IMO the editing style is more like graphics editing than text editing. Take a look at the Edit menu of the GIMP, for instance - cut, copy, paste and clear work the way the do now in Tutka.

If you really want the selection to stay there after cutting (it stays there after other operations) please remove the line

tracker_clear_mark_selection(tracker);

from the end of on_menuitem_edit_cut_activate() in callbacks.c.

I'm closing this but I'm open for discussion if this really bothers people... :)

Well, usually the cut means that it is really cut off and the stuff after the selection moves backwards so the selection can't be there anymore. But in the track, it is more like Clear than Cut, so I'd suggest we rename the Cut to Clear and keep the selection visible.

Of course actual Cut could be implemented also, which would move the rest up.

I checked the behaviour of some other programs and it seems that usually the selection indeed stays visible if Copy or Clear is used but disappears when Cut is used. I changed the behaviour of Tutka to match. Do you consider this reasonable?

I'd say yes. It's easier to see what was copied / cut, and I think in most programs the selected area stays visible. There is no harm done if it stays visible.

Eg. If you want to paste the copied area just below the end of the selection (or few lines lower) it's hard to remember where the selection ended.

Works as designed. Should the area stay selected?
