This kind of error message usually means that an object was still alive when the interpreter was shut down during normal termination of the python program. Most likely it was part of some reference cycle. With Python 2.3 these message probably appear more often because Python 2.3 tries to free more cyclic garbage at the end of the program.

The messages are usually harmless. It should be fixed in the next prerelease. I haven't found a way to reproduce it so far, but I know how to fix it.
