Hi, here is the beginning of your log file:

bash: rdiff-backup: command not found
Mon Dec 1 13:29:01 2003 Fatal Error: Truncated header string (problem probably originated remotely)

Couldn't start up the remote connection by executing

ssh -C fileserv rdiff-backup --server

Remember that, under the default settings, rdiff-backup must be installed in the PATH on the remote system. See the man page for more information on this.

so it looks like a simple problem of rdiff-backup not being in the on the remote side. Hmm, and you did use ssh here. Perhaps you attached the wrong log? (Attach log again and reopen if so.)

I am attempting to run rdiff-backup over NFS, and it seems to fail when attempting to touch a "mirror marker". I have attached a log of the session, with verbosity pumped up to 9.
I cannot run rdiff-backup over ssh because the machine to which I am backing up lacks Python, librsync, and rdiff-backup itself, and I lack the root privileges neccessary to correct this.
