I reported this earlier and it was supposedly fixed, but after applying the post-0.5.2 fixes from CVS, it still exhibits the same behavior.
When --UID and --pidfile is specified in a directory only writable by root (which is normally the case), dchub will complain to stderr about something similar to this:
Unable to create /var/run/dchub.pid

When --UID is specified along with a port lower than 1024, dchub will appear to start normally, but quickly terminate with the following messages in dchub.log:
setsock or bind: Permission denied
Unable to create hub port.
