The problem has been solved. A problem with dinamic allocation of memory. The reporter has tested the new code and agrees that the bug has been fixed.

A segmentation fault appears when a piece movement is made. The segmentation fault appears both in KDE and Gnome running environments.
Following are indicated the configuration libraries uses in mandrake 9.2:
-Canvas
---libgnomecanvas2_0-2.4.0-1mdk
---libgnomecanvas2_0-devel-2.4.0-1mdk

-Libgnomeui

---libgnomeui2_0-devel-2.4.0.1-1mdk
---libgnomeui2-2.4.0.1-1mdk

-Libxml
---libxml1-1.8.17-5mdk
---libxml2-2.5.11-1mdk
---libxml2-devel-2.5.11-1mdk
---libxml1-devel-1.8.17-5mdk
