yay, I tried 2.5.16, and it's working, since I filed this anonymously, I can't close it, but one of the devs feel free to.

Please try a core with patch 2720 build in:
http://savannah.nongnu.org/patch/?func=detailitem&item_id=2720

This fixes another problem but maybe useful for you, too.

What about config value "add_mail_brackets"? Should be set to false.

Yes, I've checked and double checked that the problem isn't in the config. I even hand edited the config file to make sure the spaces before and after the equal sign weren't causing the problem. When I checked that, there weren't any spaces inside the quotation marks.

You are sure you didn't put the space in the option?

I don't know where the mail is actually send but I found two occurences:

utils/net/mailer.ml:
Printf.fprintf oc "MAIL FROM:<%s>\r\n"

and

daemon/common/commonInteractive.ml:
M.mail_from = Printf.sprintf "mldonkey <%s>" !!mail;

Both have no space in them

grrr, they added in some crap down there

In any case I assure you it's putting a space after the first < before the email address

hmm, wrong key...

anyways, what I was going to say was when mldonkey tries to send a notification email, it puts a space inside the brackets which causes an error on my mail server.
