The quaternion code was cleaned up, and a couple of bugs were
fixed between OpenEXR releases 1.0.7 and 1.1.0. The cleanup
changed the semantics of slerp():

1.0.7 Given two quaternions q1 and q2, there
are two possible arcs along which one can move,
corresponding to alternative starting directions.
This routine chooses the shorter arc for the
interpolation of q1 and q2, which is more desirable.

1.1.0 This method does not interpolate along the shortest arc
between q1 and q2. If you desire interpolation along the
shortest arc, then consider flipping the second quaternion
explicitly before calling slerp. The implementation of squad()
depends on a slerp() that interpolates as is, without the
automatic flipping.

On recompiling an in-house tool which relies on Imath's Quat type, results from Imath::slerp were wildly different from those in 1.0.7 and 1.1.0. Not being a mathematician I have simply chucked together a test application which demonstrates the different results between the two library versions.
