if the window looses focus and then gets it again, it doesn't redraw until you enter an option (this is serious if you have covered the pingus window with another window).

I don't know if this is related to the bug in this post, but I thought it may be related..

doesn't seem to be easy to fix, so we leave it for the moment like it is, since the editor works ok

Sometimes the GUI doesn't have focus and requires an extra click to become active again. This is because a ugly hack that ask clanGUI if it wants focus, which doesn't really work (EditorEvent::accept_input()). Correct fix would be to rewrite the editor to be based on clanGUI components or to at a function to clanGUI which reports correctly if it wants input or not.
