The Unicode 3.1 support was added in Java 1.5. Therefore this issue is now closed.

Grammatica currently uses standard Java chars and Readers. This is a problem, since some characters in Unicode 3.1 and 4.0 cannot be properly represented with just two bytes. The Unicode planes 1 to 16 (the character sequence \u10000-\u10FFFF) can therefore not be properly handled in Grammatica.

It is tricky to fix this in current-day Java (if not C# too). One could try to work around this, but as these characters are not used much in practice I suspect that it's better to wait for the proper Java support to arrive:

I don't know how much of this is an issue with C#, but I'd guess the same problem is present there.
