Bug #11145 provides more information on this issue and also summarizes this bug (comparing it to the solution provided there).

WRT the issues commented in the previous post that affect configure.ac (as well as Makefile.am), this is discussed in the Automake manual, section 26.1 (CVS and generated files).

There are already provisions on how to avoid the timestamp issues, and also explanations on whether you want to keep the generated scripts in the repository or not.

I think mtime would be more natural than ctime for this. Another reason is to help make(1), although really you'd want a bit more, since people are likely to commit changes to configure.ac and configure in the same changeset. However, just setting mtime to the time of checkin would be a valuable beginning, IMHO.

It would be nice if monotone would set the creation-time of files under it's control to the date and time of their last commit when checking out a branch. Also, when an update of a file results in an unmodified copy of the file, it should set the cdate to the date of the last commit to this file.

The reason I'm asking for this is because I'd like to use this information in my homepage to display the file's ctime as "last modification date" on the web page, but that doesn't work at the moment, because I edit the files on a different machine than the web server and a "monotone update" will use the current time, not the time of the last commit.
