This bug has been fixed some time ago (the current
official chicken version is 1.33, I think), and a
snapshot (1.45) is available at the chicken website.

Sorry, I forgot to login before posting the bug.
And I should mention, that I'm running chicken on a debian system with the standard testing package (version 1.22-1) installed.

Apparently chicken stores or retrieves the unix time (seconds since 00:00:00 1970-01-01 UTC) in an inappropriate format or data type size. This problem occurs both in interpreted and compiled code. The following session transcript gives an example:

tom@murphy:~$ date
Mi Mai 5 22:33:03 CEST 2004
tom@murphy:~$ date +%s
1083789187
tom@murphy:~$ csi
; This is the CHICKEN interpreter.
; Version 1, Build 22 - linux-unix-gnu-x86
; (c)2000-2003 Felix L. Winkelmann

>>> (current-seconds)

-1063694453

>>> (seconds->string (current-seconds))

"Fri Apr 17 18:19:19 1936\n"

>>> (exit)

tom@murphy:~$
