I had the same problem and a

Just to show that there are more people with this problem. I recently changed my system to work alsa-only. Unfortunately, this means that I can no longer play/test globulation...

Please fix this, I'm having withdrawel symptoms... :(

I use the with Alsa options compiled SDL package from Debian (libsdl1.2debian-alsa) and I can't start the game either.

Since I don't have OSS, it's a bit unfortunate..
This bug (either SDL or glob2's) was introduced in alpha6.

The audio driver refused to allocate the 8192 byte length audio buffer. I need more informations on how much people have this problem to decide to try to fix it because having a negociation with the audio driver is not the way it should behave on SDL (feature should be emulated).

For now, I consider this as a SDL semi-bug.

By the way, if someone send I patch I'll test it and consider it.

I'm using the dmix plugin for ALSA inside ~/.asoundrc (I've attachted mine) to allow multitiple streams to be played at once.
SDL allows using these plugins by setting some enviroment variables.

When setting these variables like this
export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa
export AUDIODEV=default

Glob2 won't start and exit with this message:
glob2: SoundMixer.cpp:61: void mixaudio(void, Uint8, int): Assertion `nsamples == 8192' failed.
Killed

Doing this again
export AUDIODEV=hw:0,0
Will let glob2 start again, with sound.
