Everything's fixed except the symlink support, which has a tracker item of it's own ( artifact #9231 ).

I think it would be a bad idea for the file name to be anywhere but last on the line. As I understand it, the line is constructed this way to allow spaces in file names. I'm sure you can see what would happen if such file names would be anywhere else but last.

Speaking of symlinks, they should really be some kind of special entry in the manifest, so they can be handled properly with 'monotone add'. I'll take this up in a different change request.

Hi!

I am still thinking about importing my /etc into monotone. To do so it will need to handle symlinks and empty directories. After having used monotone for a bit I think the logical place to add support for this is in the .mt-attr file.

Nathaniel has already pointed out the somewhat awkward "exactly one space" separator issue, so I am not going to repeat this here.

I was thinking about adding some attr_function hooks for symlinks and empty dirs. Doing so will make keeping the mt-attr file up to date more annoying. So My next thought was to use some other hook run before actually commiting anything (is there such a thing?) to run a script testing the tree for symlinks and empty dirs etc. and update the mt-attr file accordingly. After running such a script you will want to "sort -u" on mt-attrs to minimize the diff between versions.

Could the format of said file be changed to have the filename first? So it would be "filename key value". Otherwise sort will group by attributes which I think will be more confusing than "grouping" by file.
