It does treat the error as transient. If you believe that it stops polling, please attach the entire output of "mail-notification -i". After the error occurs, wait until your check delay has elapsed before quitting MN.

Please clarify why it is a server problem.  Are you saying that it's illegal for the server to allow a message to be expunged out from under MN's open mailbox handle?

I do not agree with your claim that "MN can't do anything about it."  It could simply treat the error as transient, closing and reopening the mailbox, rather than refusing to do any further checking on the mailbox until its properties page is opened and saved.

I do not agree that a fetch error on a single message should cause MN to stop polling a particular mailbox completely.

Considering that Exchange is the most common mail server in the world, and hence Exchange's IMAP implementation is the most common IMAP server in the world, I think it would be rather a good idea for MN to find a way to place nicely with Exchange's IMAP server even if Exchange isn't playing nicely.

Could you please send the IMAP session transcript (obtained with "mail-notification -i")?

If I happen to remove new message from my IMAP mailbox right after they come in and before mail-notification has seen them, it sometimes starts flashing in my notification area and shows the error "some mesages in the mailbox had previously been expunged and could not be returned."  The only way to make it go away appears to be to open up the properties for mail-notification, then open and save the properties for the IMAP mailbox.  This should be a non-fatal error; I'm not even convinced it should be displayed, although if it must, then it should go away the next time mail-notification tries to check mail.
