mandb --test doesn't seem to do anything when run as non-root.  Not sure why - I think it's something that would be useful to allow to be run as an ordinary user.

If that's not impractical to implement, at least it should output an error message and exit with non-zero status; currently (at least as of 2.57 on Fedora 14) it does neither:

$ mandb --test
$ echo $?
0

(When run as root on the same system, it does do something and outputs a bunch of warnings.)
