I'd love to, but I don't really have the programming skills to contribute to gnokii.  Since mine is a very limited use, I probably would implement this through a bash or perl script.  But this too would take me a while since computer work is not my primary occupation, and I would have to learn about AT commands etc. from basically a position of zero knowledge.

This is on todo list for a loooog time already. If you're about to put any effort into support this, I'd encourage you to put this effort into gnokii. Daniele and I would be glad to support you. To get immediate support please join our irc channel (#gnokii at freenode)

Ok.  Can there be an option to allow this?  Or would this be a "wontfix"?  Can understand if the latter, it just means I have to write my own script / program for this from scratch :).

It is known issue now. gnokii does not support TEXT mode for SMS, only PDU mode.

Thanks for the swift reply.  I have installed gnokii 0.6.31 from the experimental repository and still get the same problem.  Attached are the debug log and the manual log (note that I made a few typos in the manual interface, and have also zeroed out part of the phone number of the contact).

Can you please do the following:
1. Try out gnokii 0.6.31
2. Provide debuglog when using gnokii
3. Provide dump from manual communication with the phone when you are able to read the message.

thanks.

I am trying to use a Samsung GT-E2152 with gnokii through a USB data cable.  The installed version is 0.6.30 installed from the Debian Testing repository on a Debian Squeeze system.

When I attempt to read the memory of the GT-E2152 with the --getsms command using "ME" as the memory storage area, I am still only able to read the SIM memory.  The messages in the phone memory return errors (number 500 if that helps).

However, if I connect directly to the phone using an emulator and use AT+CGMF=1 to change to text mode, I'm able to access all messages with AT+CGMR.  Picked up this from a bug report on Gammu for another Samsung phone; I didn't expect it to work on this one but it did.

Can anything be done about this?  Not sure how to turn on text mode in Gnokii.

I have classified this as a "major malfunction" since it makes it impossible to access most SMS's on these phones.  On the other hand, that may just be my over-assessment, so please feel free to change it :).
