The big news is compliance with the expanded ia64 unwind specification (which implies a change to major version 7 for the unwind shared object) and preliminary x86-64 contributed by Max Asbock.
The library has been split into separate local-only (libunwind.so) and generic (libunwind-generic.so) libraries. The former is optimized for quick loading and high performance, whereas the latter provides the most flexibility.
The big addition this time is support for the exception-handling interface originally defined for the C++ ABI. The extensions added by the GCC developers are also supported. The interface is defined by unwind.h and its key routine is _Unwind_RaiseException(). See http://www.codesourcery.com/cxx-abi/abi-eh.html for details.
Bigger, better, faster, more reliable---or so the theory goes...
Mostly bug-fixes, but HP-UX support has also been improved much.
This is primarily a bug-fix release. On IA-64, libunwind should now build with Intel ECC (see README for details). On x86, libunwind should now pass 5 out of 10 cases in the test-suite.
