Dear Werner,

thank you for this really quick reply!
That clears my confusion.

May I suggest you add this information to the documentation (man page)?

Anyway, thanks for your work!

Best,
Max

Yes, that is the case. When you open a file than davfs2 will copy that file from the server in to the local cache first (except it is already in the cache).

Maybe some time I will implement partial downloads. But according to the nature of HTTP this will only work when opening files for reading. When writing to a file the file must be transferred completely.

Hello,

I recently switched to a self-hosted webdav (NextCloud).

Thanks to you there is a fuse-mount available!

Now I failed to mount my webdav so that I can "stream" files from the share... e.g. using VLC.

Opening an https-link directly works perfectly.
But opening a file from the mounted shared seems to freeze VLC and the playback never starts.

To me, it looks like when accessing a file, it needs to be downloaded completely first.

I can see the same behaviour happening with tools like dd, cp or rsync.

The network load is very high when trying to access a file.

I did not use any mount options besides specifying username/pw in the configuration file.

After stumbling upon use_locks 0, I tried that out, but it didn't change anything.

Now I guess, since direct https-link-streams work perfectly, this is related to davfs2.

Can you provide me some input or guidance here?
Did I miss some setting or is this just not supported?

Thanks in advance for any reply!

Best regards,
Max
