Hello Anon,
 You must start fonty from the command line to access hidden directories.

$fontypython ~/.fonts

That should open and view your ~/.fonts directory.

Because all fonts in that directory are "installed" (it's the purpose of that directory, which is also old-fashioned now and is changing to some other place) you can see those fonts in your Gnome/KDE font viewers or by opening some app like Inkscape and looking into the fonts it already has.
