The hardware section is oriented toward consumer gps devices that gpsd works with, whereas gpsd oriented toward gps chipsets. gpsd supports certain chipsets, and does not support others. (Any device using a MT3339 will work, for example, It is secondary what kind of consumer device it is used in.)

gpsd is used in commercial devices, and it is the chipset that is interesting here.

I have a Royaltek REB-5216 running with gpsd in SiRF mode, but gpsd does not recognize the chipset.
